Flight bookings to the U.S. from the U.K. have soared as the
U.S.’ reopening date for U.K. travelers nears, according to data from
Travelport.
Within 24 hours of the
initial announcement by the Biden administration that it would be allowing
fully vaccinated international travelers to enter the U.S., flight bookings
from the U.K. for the Thanksgiving weekend increased by 1,600 percent,
according to Travelport. When the Nov. 8 opening date was
confirmed later in October, that increase jumped to 2,200 percent. Searches
for flights to the U.S. from the U.K. alone outnumbered searches from all other
European countries combined, Travelport reported.
After the U.K., the most travel bookings to the U.S. have
come from Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Over the past month, total flight
bookings to U.S. destinations recovered to 70 percent of pre-Covid-19 levels,
with international travel making up more than half of those bookings, according
to Travelport.
