LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Missouri tennis program (4-4) is on the road again, heading to Virginia for a double-header against Liberty University (7-3) and James Madison University (4-5) on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The first match against Liberty is slated for 11 a.m. with the second match against JMU following at 4 p.m. 

Winning at Home 

Mizzou bounced back with a pair of big victories at home after facing a number of ranked teams to start the season. The Tigers first defeated Southeast Missouri State last Friday, 5-2. Emelie Schwarte & Ellie Wright and Bronte Murgett & Gabriela Martinez secured the doubles point. Wright clinched the match in singles play with her win over Myroslava Zelenchuk, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). On Saturday, Missouri lost the doubles point to Central Arkansas, but fought back in singles play and won the match, 4-2. Elys Ventura clinched the match against the Bears, taking down Nicole Ross, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. 

East Coast Matchups 

Liberty heads into the match against Mizzou with a five game win streak. The Lady Flames most recently beat North Texas, 4-1, and South Florida, 4-2. Liberty’s last match against an SEC opponent was a 4-1 loss to Texas A&M back in 2018. James Madison is similarly riding a two game win streak after beating Morgan State, 5-2, and Coppin State, 7-0. JMU has faced one ranked team thus far, losing to No. 9 Virginia, 0-4. 

The match against Liberty will begin at 11 a.m. and live stats and streaming will be available on the website. Live streaming will remain for the match against JMU, but no live stats will be up. Follow along for updates on Twitter via @MizzouTennis.
