Delhi’s air quality drops again to severe category; States meet to discuss strategy to check pollution
The air quality in the national capital deteriorated to the severe category on Tuesday and the Delhi government suggested implementing work from home policy in Delhi-NCR and closing down industries as part of measures to deal with the pollution crisis during a meeting with other northern states. The Supreme Court, which had instructed the Commission For Air Quality Management to hold the joint meeting regarding the pollution levels in Delhi, will hear the matter on Wednesday.Delhi’s air quality was again in the severe category with the 24-hour average AQI recorded at 403 after remaining in the ‘very poor’ category till Tuesday morning, when the AQI was recorded at 396. The air quality index in neighbouring cities was also in the ‘very poor category — Ghaziabad (356), Greater Noida (361), Gurugram (369) and Noida (397) — at 4 PM.

Six dead, 33 injured in twin bomb blasts in Ugandan capital
Six people including three suicide bombers were killed and 33 others injured in twin bomb blasts in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Tuesday, police said. Fred Enanga, police spokesperson told reporters that three suicide bombers detonated themselves at a checkpoint at the Central Police Station and on the parliamentary avenue. Enanga said the injured were rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital while counter-terrorism response teams managed to pursue a fourth suicide bomb attacker.

Russia confirms 36,818 new COVID-19 cases
Russia has registered 36,818 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 9,145,912, the official monitoring and response centre said on Tuesday. The nationwide death toll grew by 1,240 to 257,837, while the number of recoveries increased by 34,161 to 7,846,448. Two loud explosions rocked Uganda’s capital, Kampala, early Tuesday, sparking chaos and confusion as people fled what is widely believed to be coordinated attacks.One blast was near a police station and another on a street near the parliamentary building, said witnesses. The explosion near parliament appeared to hit a building housing an insurance company and the subsequent fire engulfed cars parked outside. Some lawmakers were seen evacuating the precincts of the parliamentary building nearby, according to national broadcaster UBC. At least 24 people have been hospitalized with injuries sustained in the blasts, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health, said in a Twitter post. Four of them are critically injured, he said.
Philippines logs 849 new COVID-19 cases
The Philippines’ Department of Health (DOH) reported 849 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections on Tuesday, pushing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 2,819,341. Tuesday’s caseload is the lowest daily figure since December 28 last year. The DOH said that the low caseload “is largely due to weekly dip of testing output.”The DOH also reported that 99 more people died from COVID-19 complications, bringing the country’s death toll to 45,808. Six laboratories failed to submit data.The Philippines no longer requires people in areas with low COVID-19 cases to wear face shields over face masks. In a memorandum, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said President Rodrigo Duterte has agreed to make face shields voluntary in low-risk areas or areas under alert levels 1 to 3 on a scale of 5.
