The traffic backup started around 5:11 p.m., according to DriveNC.gov.
Two of three lanes are closed near Exit 9 at Creedmor Road, or N.C. 50.
The website advises that the expected impact to traffic is “high.” Online traffic maps show traffic backups starting at the Glenwood Avenue exit. Maps also show high volumes of traffic on Strickland Road as cars detour the wreck site.
